Oh god. Now he's saying that it's "the husband's job to discipline the wife."
And he thinks that women become property when they agree to marry someone.
I...don't even know. I think I need to move before I throw something at him for real.

31st-Oct-2009 04:52 pm - This is an Obligatory Halloween Entry
marieblack
Hey f-list!

So I realize I haven't been on LJ all that much since school started, mostly to spare you from having to read through extensive entries regarding how much I hate my school schedule and courses this year; but I'm still alive and well!

Despite the fact that I have 2 essays due on Wednesday, tonight is Halloween and I have some Goldschlager and Jagermeister so I can party it up!

I'm actually kind of excited.

I hope you all have a great night as well, whether you're going to a party, trick-or-treating or just staying home and watching horror movies :)

So I finally gave in to pressure and marathoned True Blood on Monday as a way to kick start August. And, as with most things I finally get around to watching, I hate the fact that I haven't gotten into it sooner.

I could spend the next 10 minutes gushing about it but I'm tired and incoherent at the moment so here, have some Jessica instead:

Also; remember A? My friend who's a bit too concerned regarding my love life? Yeah, she now believes that I'm asexual.

What the actual fuck? I mean, how does she even come up with these conclusions?

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but I decided to do a complete overhaul on my room before the end of summer. (Actually, it was supposed to be done by July, but I'm a procrastinator, so I'll just settle for having it done by mid-August.)

ANYWAY, so as I was going through all the stuff I've accumulated over the years, I came across a locked keepsake box that I honestly couldn't remember owning.
After picking the lock, I discovered this inside:

What you're looking at is, essentially, a collection of notes from my tween years that S and I used to write and pass to each other in class or drop into each other's lockers in between classes.

Looking through them led to a kind of "OMG" moment because they're full of various inside jokes that we had at the time and just general tween-age ridiculousness/angst, but to be honest I couldn't read more than two because they're just so damn embarrassing.
It feels like a different lifetime.

It also confirmed my belief that spending my past few pay checks to renovate my room is an excellent decision.
I kind of need it right now.

I'm back :)
School is finally over and I'm officially on summer! (Which is long overdue, in my opinion.)

So, how did my LJ-ban go?

Overall, it went pretty well; I obsessively avoided my friends page and groups in order to focus solely on school related nonsense. I barely went out with friends, instead spending my nights going through the many readings I needed to do for class.
Sure, it was stressful, but it worked out pretty well.

At least until the beginning of May, when I gave in to temptation and started going on [info]ohnotheydidntin order to kill time between classes. I figured that out of all of the comms I'm in, that one was least investing as long as I just skimmed through the home page and avoided getting into the comments.
And I was right for the most part; until one Tuesday night when I found myself in an American Idol post.

I honestly don't even know why I went to the post in the first place because I've openly mocked AI since season two, and yet there I was, reading through it on ONTD, and actually enjoying it.
And if that wasn't enough, I found myself actually watching the results show on Wednesday night while on the accompanying ONTD post.

Now, as someone who's always ridiculed that particular show, you could probably imagine that I didn't dare say anything about my new-found enjoyment of it to friends or co-workers or family or anyone in r!l at all, it essentially became my secret.

(I mean really, could you imagine the hell I would have had to put up with had I admitted that oh my god, I was actually invested in and enjoying Adam Lambert's AI performances?)

And then, [info]ontd_aiwas created, and through its awesomeness I somehow became completely shameless and started fangirling over Adam Lambert and the Kradam bromance.

And by "shameless," I mean actually admitting it to people. In real life. Shamelessly.

Essentially, I found myself involved in a fandom (something that hasn't happened since I was 14) right in the heart of end-of-year essays and exams. So, yeah, fml and all that.

But the important thing is that it's summer now and I can openly come back to LJ and fangirl and spend the next couple of days getting caught up with everything that has been going on with you guys.

& at the risk of showing off uber-levels of fangirling, Adam thanks you for your time:

I hope you've all been doing well <3

Random happenstance of the day: I was on the bus, on my way to my philosophy exam when this guy randomly pulls out his acoustic guitar and starts playing it.
Generally something like this would have irritated me beyond belief (seeing as I was stressing over the impending doom of my exam,) but for some reason it totally mellowed me out. And I definitely needed some of that today.

A possible sign of positive things to come for the week ahead y/y?

Also:
~* 6 more days bbs! And then I'll be back to comment on all your fabulous posts ;) *~

13th-Apr-2009 02:52 pm - Hey Friends List!
WATFvenus

First off, I know I've been a horrible LJ friend by not keeping up with any of your blogs, but school's been a parade of essays, exams and tests since my last entry.
Throw in work and my wonderful procrastination skills, and I have way to much to do and hardly enough time to do it in.

So, I suppose this is my "official announcement" that I'm going to be  M.I.A for a little while - until June 3rd the latest - just so you guys know that I haven't totally abandoned LJ :)

I hope you're all enjoying spring weather!

My exam period ended as of Thursday last week, so I have a couple of weeks this week to take a breather before I need to start writing essays.

Thanks to all of you for wishing me luck, I already got my mark for two of them and I'm pretty thrilled about them :D

Anyway, in order to celebrate, I went out last Friday with S, J, V and, of course, S's boyfriend.
Originally we were just going to spend an hour bowling, but then the bowling place went glow-in-the-dark and started playing good, catchy music, so we stayed longer and turned it into a mini dance party until around 9:30 when we left to get coffee.
Overall, a good night.

On another note:

$5 shoes!  (My bargain of the week...from Walmart.)
They actually have a little heel at the back, and though you can't really see it in the picture, they're the same colour as that bag I bought not too long ago.

And, inversely, I kind of love this Alexander McQueen jacket, mainly because of the design and colour of it (the gold zippers don't really thrill me all that much) AND these shoes.
Anyone have $6000 US they can send me? ;)

And on the subject of fashion and Alexander McQueen: I was looking at pictures from his Fall 09 show and while I hate the model's faces, the clothes are just insane!
If you look at some of the pictures zoomed in, you can see the details on the clothes (like this one.)
-SIGH- I swear, I WILL go to Paris Fashion Week sometime in my life!

I've been pretty busy with school/work/being a shoulder to cry on for certain friends lately so I apologize for not being more active in commenting for all of you.

Earlier last week I received a Valentine in the mail from[info]nurikins, which was a nice surprise on what was a pretty crappy day because honestly, who doesn't love getting mail?
Obviously, I want to thank her for taking the time to send it, it was a nice thought :)

But, while I was bringing in the mail, I remembered my favourite kind of mail to get (besides cheques, of course!):
Postcards.

I've always found postcards a kind of art in their own right; they attempt to capture the scenery (and, in turn, essence) of a city on a flimsy piece of cardboard and as a result, some of them turn out quite pretty (even unique!)
From a traveller's prospective, postcards are the cheapest and most useful souvenir. With one you can both ensure your loved ones that you're doing well and send them a little piece of where you are.

Sure, we live in high tech times, but getting an email or IM or Facebook message from your friend on tour in Rome saying that all's well doesn't quite hold the same charm as getting a postcard (complete with a stamp) saying the same thing.
At least for me.

But postcards aren't made for lengthy explanations, and my personal favourites to get from friends/family are ones with the words "From [insert city name here], With Love."
Yes, it's a saying made popular because of James Bond, but I've always found something classy about getting that sentence in a postcard - particularly now that I can talk to those friends an hour later over MSN.

But I also love getting them blank either from acquaintances I'm not that close with, or buying them myself while I'm away to hang them in my room.
(Once I get around to actually renovating it, I'd love to make one of my walls a "postcard wall" - I'll put them in frames if I find the right ones cheap enough.
The only problem is that I've misplaced all of them except for one V got me from her trip to Paris last year =/ )

So, to[info]nurikins; as a thank you for spending the postage and taking the time to send me a Valentine, I'd like to send you a postcard from here with my favourite saying...only if that's okay, of course!

Anyway, I'm feeling pretty congested/like crap at the moment so I promise to read/comment on all your journals tomorrow!
